A US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier arrived in the South Korean port city of Busan on Tuesday amid growing threats from North Korea. The USS Nimitz carrier docked at the ROK Fleet Command in the city, 325 km southeast of Seoul, following exercises with the South Korean Navy in international waters south of the southern island of Jeju the previous day, Yonhap news agency reported.
Warning to north korea
Observers said its presence here is expected to serve as a warning to Pyongyang, which has been ramping up tensions with missile launches and repeated threats to use nuclear weapons. There are 70 fighter aircraft on the ship. This includes the F-18 fighter jet and the A-2 Hawkeye early warning aircraft. North Korea claimed to have loaded its ballistic missiles with a simulated nuclear warhead on the eve of a US ship arriving in Busan.
No fear from north korea
Addressing reporters on Monday aboard the USS Nimitz, Rear Admiral Christopher Sweeney, commander of the Carrier Strike Group, highlighted the allies' readiness to deal with North Korean threats, according to a pool report. He said, I have no fear or concern about North Korea. Significantly, North Korea is angry with the joint military exercise of Japan and America. For this reason, after testing missiles one after the other, he has been warning America in his own language.
